Painting your fingers can give you a great look. There are many who go for more stylish looks, like doing French nails. It can look absolutely fantastic.

Many people spend the time to do their own nails and get a great look. They have become experts in making their nails look beautiful. It is amazing what some people can do.

The One Blemish

Doing your nails allows you to style them the way you want and it can be a lot of fun, but you may have some small problems that can take away from the great look. One such problem is when the polish gets on the side of your fingers.

It can be very difficult to try to perfectly place the polish on your nails and not get any of your finger along the way. It takes delicate work and a steady hand. It also takes a lot of time, and you may not have all of those things. Does that mean you should not have perfect nails? Of course not!

What it means is that you need to find ways to put polish on your nails without getting it on your fingers. If you are looking to find out how you can do this, here are some things you can do to relieve this problem.

Use Vaseline

One of the things you can do is to put some kind of protection around your nails that keeps the polish from getting directly onto your fingers. Instead, if you go a little too close to the finger, it gets on the material instead of getting onto your finger.

One of the best things you can use is Vaseline. By using a Q-tip, you can apply Vaseline around the skin and cuticles before you start to polish your nails. This way, when you are applying the polish, if you swing a little too wide it will get on the Vaseline. After your nails have dried, you simply wipe off the Vaseline and you have the look you desire.

The steps to this are really easy. First, take the Q-tip and rub the jelly around your fingers and the cuticle. Apply the polish and let it dry. When it has dried, simply wipe it off. It really is as easy as that.

Elmer’s Glue

While not as easy to get off your fingers, Elmer’s glue can work in the exact same way. You simply wipe this onto your finger and cuticles, then apply the nail polish and wipe the glue off after you are done.

Getting Elmer’s glue off your finger is tougher to do than Vaseline. There is no doubt about that, but there is a big advantage to using glue instead of gel. This is that it does not as easily wipe off when you are applying the polish either. This way you can be real sure that the polish will not get onto your fingers. A little soap and water will remove the glue and your nails will look beautiful.

As a note, some have used glue sticks and have had some success, but this is not the best choice. The problem is that they do not apply the same kind of coat so you cannot count on them protecting against the polish getting on your fingers.

Use Guards

There are stick on guards you can buy that you can use to protect your skin from getting polish on it as well. These are very effective, but they are something that you have to buy. You may not want to pay for the cost to get them, but they are very effective.

You start by taking off the protective film on the back of the guard. Then place the sticky side around your finger to reveal just the nail. It takes a little practice to get very skilled at this, but it is not hard to master.

Once you are done, you can paint to your hearts delight. What is so popular about these guards is that they cover a good portion of the top of your finger, so you do not need to worry about being as accurate when polishing your nails. This is the perfect choice if you need to do your nails quickly or if you are not as steady when using the brush.

One other advantage is that cleanup is really easy. All it takes is for you to pull of the guard and throw it away. You will find that using these guards allows you to paint your nails completely and it dries within 10 or 15 minutes. You can have all of your nails done in 15 minutes and be out the door.

The only real disadvantage to using these guards is that you have to pay for them. Vaseline or Elmer’s glue are obviously a lot cheaper to use, but they still require a little more delicacy and precision than the guards do. If you are person who just wants to get your nails done and to get them done quickly then you may find the guards to be the perfect choice. After all, they are not that effective.

When You Make a Mistake

As a final note, should you go a little too far no need to worry. What you want to do is finish completely polishing your nails first. Do not stop to try to fix it, but instead complete the nails.

After the nail polish has dried, get a little nail polish remover and put it on a Q-tip. Then gently rub the swab onto the area where you want to remove the polish. With a few swipes you should be able to remove the excess polish. It really is that easy.

You Can Do It!

You will find that you can get the perfect nails you want without having to worry about getting polish on your fingers. Just choose the method that works best for you and your schedule. You can make your fingers absolutely beautiful.
